It may have been an over simplification but I don't believe so. I believe the President meant to spin and it was about as close to a lie as you can get. He said" we spend a 177 Billion dollars subsidizing health insurance companies through the Medicare Advantage Plan and that this could be a savings" This is not true. I am a senior citizen and here is my understanding of Medicare Advantage Plans.
A SENIOR WOULD OPT OUT OF TRADITIONAL MEDICARE. THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION TAKES THE $96.00 MEDICARE PREMIUM ADS $347.00 OF OUR TAX DOLLARS AND ENROLLS THE SENIOR IN A LOCAL MEDICAL GROUP FOR THIER CARE. SUCH AS BARNES - JEWISH IN SAINT LOUIS. HIS EXAMPLE OF A MEDICAL PROCEDURE COSTING MEDICARE AND THE ADVANTAGE PLAN IS WRONG. THE SENIOR HAS OPTED OUT OF MEDICARE. IF THIER EXPENSES ARE $15,000.00 FOR A PROCEDURE MEDICARE PAYS ZERO. ALL OF THE COST IS BORNE BY THE ADVANTAGE PLAN. IT IS A COSTS SAVINGS NOT AN INSURANCE GIVE AWAY. HE IS IGNORANT OF THE FACTS.
Also unmentioned is that the federal income tax collected when social security becomes taxable on your federal return, is allocated to medicare expenses such as the enrollment costs above. This government has done a poor job of educating the public about
Advantage Plans and the President counted on that fact when he spun his words
